Homecoming
A school homecoming is a dance to welcome students to there high school and have fun.
Origins. The 1911 Kansas vs. Missouri football game is one of several claimed to be the first college football homecoming game. The tradition of homecoming has its origin in alumni football games held at colleges and universities since the 19th century.
Many high schools celebrate homecoming during football season, but some schools also celebrate during basketball season or even hockey or soccer.
Although the annual Harvard-Yale game has been inviting alumni to return home for The Game since the 1870's the origins of the first homecoming celebration remain largely contested. Baylor Illinois and Missouri are three of the front runners all having planned and held their first coming home celebrations around 1910
High School Homecoming Etiquette. Homecoming which takes place every fall is a very important high school event. The tradition now followed by most schools and states was born Dress Most homecoming dances are semi-formal although each school will specify its own dress code.
